Marfa Soup Test Kitchen

  • Marfa Open Art Center 102 S Plateau St Marfa, TX, 79843 United States (map)

We’ll be hosting a trial run/proof of concept for Marfa Soup in preparation for the upcoming official full-on event scheduled ideally in August.

This event is intended as a get-together to discuss how to best proceed with the actual event.

There will be soup.

About Marfa Soup:

Marfa Soup is a micro-granting dinner celebrating and supporting creative projects in Marfa, Texas that serve to benefit the city and our residents in some way.

For a small donation of about $5 attendees receive a dinner of soup, salad, bread and a vote. Attendees will hear presentations from those that want to pitch their idea ranging from art, agriculture, environmental, social justice, social entrepreneurs, education, technology and more.

Each presenter has four minutes to share their idea and answer four questions from the audience. At the event, attendees eat, talk, share resources, enjoy art and vote on the project they think benefits the city the most. At the end of the night, we’ll count the ballots and the winner goes home with all of the money raised to carry out their project. Winners come back to a future soup dinner to report their project’s progress.

There are numerous benefits for participating in an event like this and a nice soup dinner with a chance to have your project funded is just a part of it. The great part is that you'll have a chance to meet and spend time with other Marfa residents and get to know what they are passionate about and it serves to foster closer community ties and a deeper sense of belonging.

So, yeah, this group is currently a proof of concept space [Hence the Test Kitchen part.] and if you know others that might be interested in seeing Marfa Soup be a reality please add/invite them.
