Marfa Soup is a way for local citizens to share a meal, get to know our neighbors and the work they’re doing while at the same time pool our resources toward an effort that will create a positive impact on the Marfa community. Marfa Soup is a crowd-funded dinner celebrating and supporting creative projects in Marfa, Texas that serve to benefit the city and our residents in some way.
We’re hosting a dinner and for a small donation of around five bucks or so attendees receive a meal of soup, salad, bread and a vote.
The event brings people together to raise money and support for community projects from people doing great things in our community—anything from cleaning up a park, to running an after-school program, to starting an art project or supporting a local business/organization/charity. As long as it benefits Marfa and the people that live and work here.
Attendees will hear presentations from those that want to pitch their ideas giving us a chance to meet and hear from people doing great things in our community—anything from cleaning up a park, to running an after-school program, to starting an art project. Each presenter has a few minutes to share their idea and answer questions from the audience. Afterward the attendees eat, talk, share resources, enjoy art and vote on the project they think benefits the city the most. At the end of the night, we’ll count the ballots and the winner goes home with all of the money raised to carry out their project.
There are no strings attached save for we ask the winners to come back and give us an update on how things went.
It’s a night of good soup and good company and a terrific way to show support to our neighbors doing great things for Marfa.
