Marfa Open Preview Exhibition + Reception

Marfa Open is proud to premiere this incredible exhibition of new works from artist CHOKE. The show will feature new works the artist as well as some new and selected works from the individual artists.

Gallery will be open every day from 11AM until 7PM and the artist will be in attendance each day. We’re extending our regular gallery hours for our opening weekend exhibition and we’ll be open from 11AM until well after midnight. This is a free event and is open to the public.

ABOUT THE ARTIST + THEIR WORK

“CHOKE” is a self-taught artist from The Washington DC area. CHOKE is an acronym that stands for Creating Her Own Kinetic Energy.

“To be a true artist is to live in a constant state of inquiry and play. I’m, naturally, a very curious person and I scratch that itch by exposing myself to the world by traveling in an extremely immersive way. When I travel, I tend to dive deep with locals into the indigenous traditions and arts of their culture. I allow myself the freedom to play, to make a mess and to try new things creatively.”

Opening WEEKEND Reception

Opening Weekend Artist Reception + After Party
October 10-13, 2024

A show like this requires more than just a typical opening night artists reception vibe. We’re going to keep things going all weekend long and essentially we’re having a party every night of the weekend.

Beginning on October 10, 2024 CHOKE will host her Tea Meditation Ceremony in our main gallery space at 10AM. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate in this tea meditation ceremony. After the ceremony our gallery opens at 11AM and the artists will be around throughout the day until very late.

You’re invited to come see the work and say hello to the artist and then sit around in our courtyard by the firepit enjoying a drink and conversation with the artist and other assorted characters who might be hanging out. We’ll be keeping very late hours [usually until 2AM or so] and everyone is invited to join our afterparty.

October 12, 2024 is our party. Things officially start at 7:30PM

October 13, 2024 is our closing party which begins at 7:30PM
