We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit arts organization actively contributing to our community through festival, events, residency and exhibition. Since 2016 we have presented an annual Art Festival in Marfa, TX each Fall featuring and exhibiting the work of local, national and international artists. Our participating artists have made use of the atmosphere Marfa presents to tailor their body of work in aspect to their experience here. As one might come to find, Marfa is a unique place and with that comes the opportunity to open one’s mind to the intersection of time and space that is always there.
Since 2016 Marfa Open has been able to exhibit local, national and international artists during the course of a 2 week festival held in Marfa, Texas every Fall. What we do operates outside the conventional boundaries of other organizations that carry more recognition. That in no way has restricted our ability to do some really cool things and receive positive response from both the local population and tourists alike.
A lot of what we have been able to accomplish through collaboration with our participating artists and the community around us is centered on creating immersive atmospheres and site-specific installations to present the artist’ work. We give a platform for the excess creativity of the younger set residing here in Marfa.
We see Marfa as something more than just a pass-through town or an Instagram photo op but rather a genuine nexus for transforming the creative atmosphere we constantly inhabit. We think what we have done so far with only private funding has been a solid example of how to respond to things and situations around us in a positive and clever way.
We view art as something to be experienced and we find inspiration and influence from Fluxus artists and Situationist activities. With playful delight and a lot of hard work we seek to expand our current abilities to providing a more focused and ultimately better equipped use of our space and the events and artists we are able to host.
